FoodMate Score of the food
This is a score for the food on its own, by its composition per 100 g, using the same formula the app applies to a meal. On a plate with other foods the result will differ: buckwheat with vegetables scores higher than buckwheat alone.

How many calories are in one tomato
A tomato is 94% water: 20 kcal per 100 g, 1.1 g of protein, 3.7 g of carbs and just over a gram of fiber. A medium tomato weighs 120-150 g, 130 g on average, which is 26 kcal, a large pink one of 220 g is 44 kcal. A cherry tomato weighs 12-18 g and gives about 3 kcal, so a handful of ten comes to only 30 kcal.
Tomatoes with oil, sour cream and in salads
The dressing determines the calories of a tomato salad. A tablespoon of sunflower or olive oil is about 135 kcal, and a 26 kcal tomato becomes 161. Two spoons of 15% sour cream add 79 kcal, a spoon of mayonnaise about 100. A 200 g cucumber and tomato salad without dressing is 34 kcal, with a tablespoon of oil 169. For more flavor without extra calories, use salt, pepper, onion, herbs and a drop of balsamic vinegar.
Tomato juice and sun-dried tomatoes
Tomato juice is almost as light as fresh tomatoes: about 19 kcal per 100 ml, 38 kcal per glass. But store-bought juice often has added salt, sometimes up to a gram per glass. Sun-dried tomatoes in oil are a different food: with water lost and oil in the jar they have about 213 kcal per 100 g, and 30 g in a salad or pasta gives 64 kcal. Tomato paste is about 80 kcal per 100 g, 20 kcal in a 25 g spoon.
What tomatoes are good for
A medium tomato gives a fifth of the daily vitamin C, some potassium and vitamin K. The red color comes from lycopene, an antioxidant that is better absorbed from cooked tomatoes and with a little fat. So tomato sauce or tomatoes with a spoon of oil are even better in this respect, as long as you do not overdo the oil.
How to count your serving
Log tomatoes at 26 kcal for a medium one and 3 kcal for a cherry, and count the dressing separately. If the tomatoes are in a salad, take a photo in MyFoodMate AI: the app counts both the vegetables and the oil.
