Carrot calories

100 g of raw carrot has 35 kcal, and one medium 85 g carrot has 30 kcal. Boiled carrots are about the same, while carrots braised with onion in oil and Korean-style carrot salad are two to three times higher because of the oil. Below: servings, salads, carrot juice and how much beta-carotene carrots have.

FoodMate Score of the food

This is a score for the food on its own, by its composition per 100 g, using the same formula the app applies to a meal. On a plate with other foods the result will differ: buckwheat with vegetables scores higher than buckwheat alone.

How many calories are in one carrot

Raw carrot has 35 kcal per 100 g: 1.3 g of protein, 7 g of carbs, a good share of it natural sugars, and 2.4 g of fiber. A medium carrot without tops weighs 70-100 g, 85 g on average, which is 30 kcal. A small 50 g one is 18 kcal, a large 150 g one 53. Young carrots are slightly lighter than winter ones, but within 5 kcal.

Boiled, braised and Korean-style

Boiled carrots are almost the same as raw: about 35 kcal per 100 g, the weight barely changes. The oil changes everything. Carrots braised with onion come to about 75 kcal per 100 g, and Korean-style carrot salad to about 115, because its dressing has a lot of vegetable oil. A 100 g serving of Korean carrots is already like a plate of buckwheat.

Carrot salad and carrot juice

150 g of grated carrot with a tablespoon of 15% sour cream is about 93 kcal. With a tablespoon of oil it is 188, with mayonnaise about 150. A glass of carrot juice is 80 kcal, almost three carrots, but without fiber it is much less filling. If you like juice, dilute it with water or drink it with a meal.

Carotene and carrots for weight loss

One carrot covers more than a day of beta-carotene, which the body turns into vitamin A. Carotene is fat-soluble and is better absorbed with a little fat, so carrots in a salad with a spoon of sour cream or oil are better in this respect than on their own. For weight loss a carrot is a good crunchy snack: 30 kcal each and plenty of fiber.

How to count your serving

Weigh the carrots and multiply by 0.35, counting oil and sour cream separately. If the carrots are in a salad, soup or plov, take a photo in MyFoodMate AI and the app counts the calories of the whole dish.
