FoodMate Score of the food

This is a score for the food on its own, by its composition per 100 g, using the same formula the app applies to a meal. On a plate with other foods the result will differ: buckwheat with vegetables scores higher than buckwheat alone.

How many calories are in ground beef

The calories of mince depend on how much fat it has. Regular store-bought ground beef with about 20% fat is 254 kcal per 100 g and 17 g of protein. A 150 g serving is 381 kcal. A 400 g pack is about 1000 kcal. Producers do not always state the fat share, but you can see it: the more white specks, the higher the calories.

Lean and pork-beef mince

Lean mince with 10% fat is about 176 kcal per 100 g, 5% about 137, almost like skinless chicken thigh. Pork and beef mix is about 263 kcal, and pork mince about 300. If you are losing weight, lean beef is the better buy, or grind tenderloin yourself: the same serving saves about 100 kcal.

Patties, navy-style pasta and bolognese

Beef patties with bread, onion and egg, fried in oil, come to about 243 kcal per 100 g, an 80 g patty about 195. Navy-style pasta with mince is about 190 kcal per 100 g. For bolognese the mince is browned and the fat drained off, which removes some calories, up to 20-30 kcal per 100 g of meat.

Ground beef for weight loss

Ground beef gives plenty of protein, vitamin B12, zinc and iron. But almost half the calories of regular mince are fat, so in a deficit it is better to choose lean mince and cook without added oil: steamed or baked patties, meatballs in soup, mince in sauce with the fat drained. A 150 g serving of lean mince is 264 kcal and 30 g of protein.

How to count your serving

Weigh the raw mince and multiply by the number for your fat level from the table, counting bread and oil for patties separately. If the mince is already in patties or pasta, take a photo in MyFoodMate AI and the app counts the whole dish.
