FoodMate Score of the food
This is a score for the food on its own, by its composition per 100 g, using the same formula the app applies to a meal. On a plate with other foods the result will differ: buckwheat with vegetables scores higher than buckwheat alone.

How many calories are in butter
82.5% butter has 748 kcal per 100 g, almost entirely from fat: 82.5 g of fat, half a gram of protein and under a gram of carbs. Every gram of butter gives 7.5 kcal. A thin layer on a sandwich weighs about 5 g, that is 37 kcal, a 10 g piece for porridge 75 kcal, a tablespoon of about 17 g 127 kcal. A 180 g pack is 1346 kcal.
Butter 72.5%, 82.5% and ghee
The number on the pack is the fat content. 72.5% butter has more water and gives 661 kcal per 100 g, 10% less than 82.5%. Ghee is almost pure fat, about 892 kcal. 60% spreads and butter-vegetable blends are about 540 kcal, but they taste different and some of their fat is vegetable. None of these options saves much: the amount is what matters.
Butter in porridge, on bread and for frying
A piece of butter in a plate of buckwheat or rice turns a 165-175 kcal side into 240-250. A sandwich with butter and cheese gets 37 kcal from every 5 g of butter. When frying, some butter stays in the pan and some is absorbed by the food: eggs fried on a 10 g piece usually absorb 4-6 g, that is 30-45 kcal. Butter is hard to measure by eye, so it is easier to cut it into 5-10 g cubes.
Butter for weight loss
Butter is not forbidden on a diet: 10 g a day is 75 kcal and some vitamin A, and fat makes food tastier and more filling. But butter is one of the most caloric foods, and it is why light porridges and sides often turn out 100-200 kcal heavier than they seem. If you are losing weight, weigh your butter at least for the first week: you will learn how much your usual piece weighs.
How to count your serving
Weigh the butter and multiply by 7.5 to get the calories. If the butter is already in porridge, mashed potatoes or on a sandwich, take a photo in MyFoodMate AI and the app counts it together with the rest of the food.
