How many calories are in azu
100 g of Tatar-style azu contain about 149 kcal: 8.5 g of protein, 8.3 g of fat and 10.2 g of carbs. A 300 g serving is 447 kcal, about 22% of a 2,000 kcal day. Potatoes and meat each provide about a third of the calories, and the rest comes from the oil used to fry them.
Azu vs goulash
Azu is a Tatar dish: strips of beef are braised with tomato, pickles, garlic and pepper and then combined with fried potatoes. It differs from goulash by the pickles and by having the side dish built in. Per 100 g azu is richer than goulash because of the fried potatoes.
How to make azu lighter
The main saving is in frying the potatoes. Boil them or roast them in the oven with a spoon of oil, and the serving becomes almost 70 kcal lighter. Lean beef is better than pork, and chicken is lighter still. Pickles add few calories but plenty of salt, so the dish needs no extra salt.
Azu on a diet
Azu is a complete lunch with protein and a side, and you can keep it in a calorie deficit. Keep the serving within 250–300 g, add fresh vegetables and skip the bread. If you watch your blood pressure, remember the salt in the pickles and tomato paste.
How to count your portion
Every cook uses a different ratio of meat to potatoes, so 149 kcal per 100 g is a guide. Take a photo of your plate in MyFoodMate AI and the app will estimate the meat and potatoes separately.
