How many calories are in shashlik
100 g of pork neck shashlik contain about 320 kcal: 18.8 g of protein, 26.5 g of fat and only 1.5 g of carbs. A 200 g skewer is 640 kcal, almost a third of the daily intake. At a barbecue, lavash, sauces and drinks join the meat, and they often double the calories of the evening.
Which shashlik is the lightest
Pork neck is juicy precisely because of its fat. Loin is leaner, about 160 kcal lighter per skewer. Chicken thigh is another 40 kcal lighter, and breast is the leanest, almost half the calories of pork. Lamb is close to pork in calories, and beef sits in between but dries out easily.
Marinade, sauces and lavash
A marinade based on kefir, lemon juice or sparkling water adds almost no calories, while an oil or mayonnaise marinade adds 40–80 kcal per serving. Ketchup is about 20 kcal per tablespoon, a mayo-based sauce about 90. A sheet of lavash weighs 80–100 g and has 230–280 kcal.
Shashlik on a diet
Shashlik is an excellent source of protein, and you don't need to avoid it in a calorie deficit. Choose chicken, pork loin or beef, a kefir or lemon marinade, and serve with plenty of grilled vegetables and herbs. A 150–200 g serving is enough to feel full when vegetables are on the plate.
How to count your portion
