Photo recognition

If the dish was not recognized

Updated October 2, 2026

The model fails to recognise a dish when its components are hard to see in the photo: a dark shot, a steep angle, a cropped plate. A second photo almost always fixes it.

A failed analysis is not countedIf no food could be recognised in the photo, that analysis does not count towards your daily limit. Feel free to retake it.

What to do first

  1. Retake the photo from above, roughly at a right angle to the plate.
  2. Turn off the flash: daylight from a window or an ordinary lamp works well.
  3. Check that the whole portion is in the frame, and remove any clutter.

If retaking did not help

Describe the dish in words, by text or voice: "buckwheat with chicken, my usual portion". Mixed dishes such as casseroles or stews are often counted even more accurately from a name than from a photo. You can also build the ingredients by hand, adding them one at a time.

Home-style dishesBorscht, plov, Olivier salad, syrniki, manti and shawarma are analysed by their components rather than as one averaged dish. If such a dish was recognised wrongly, let support know: we want to hear about these mistakes.
